Mount St. Mary Hospital, a 200-bed residential care facility, forms the eastern half of a major redevelopment plan on the site of the former Victoria General Hospital. The $33 million hospital replaced obsolete buildings that did not meet seismic standards and contained hazardous materials. Fortunately, through innovative renovation methods, it was possible to retain the 1908 heritage wing and Chapel. CitySpaces coordinated the site planning, development approvals, design and construction of the hospital, as well as coordinating the sale of surplus land. Opened in 2003, the Hospital was designed by Jensen Group Architects using the latest approaches to building a caring, hospitable home for residents, and an efficient, enjoyable working environment for staff and volunteers.
