CitySpaces worked with the Township of Esquimalt to update the Esquimalt Official Community Plan. Esquimalt is one of four municipalities that make up the core of British Columbia’s Capital Region. This waterfront community of 17,000 has been defined by the long standing presence of Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt — one of the region’s largest employers. As land within the City of Victoria becomes scarce and increasingly expensive, Esquimalt is fast becoming an attractive place to live, work and invest.
This was the first update of the Esquimalt Official Community Plan since a regional strategy was adopted, and comprises smart growth, major settlement patterns and future density considerations, as well as tourism, economic development, housing and social issues, and environmental protection. Coordination and facilitation of public consultation activities included focus group meetings, open houses, newsletters and a project website.
