CitySpaces was retained by C-Space and VIVO in November 2014 to assist with the preparation of a concept plan and feasibility study for a potential new shared arts production and presentation centre in Vancouver. CitySpaces conducted a number of interviews and workshops with members of VIVO and C-Space, which supported the preparation of development scenarios along with associated order of magnitude capital budgets.

About VIVO Media Arts

VIVO Media Arts Centre is one of Canada’s leading and most established artist-run centres. Its mission is to support the development, presentation, and preservation of a variety of media arts, including video, creative electronics, sound, computing and more. VIVO is a unique bridge between hacker, DIY, and maker communities, with experimental practice and critical art theory. Ensuring community access to the production and presentation of technology-based artwork has been at the core of its operations since 1973. VIVO houses the Crista Dahl Media Library and Archive, Western Canada’s most extensive repository of media art history.

About C-Space

C-Space is a joint venture of four of the city’s best-known and most successful independent theatre companies: Boca del Lupo, Electric Company Theatre, Neworld Theatre and Rumble Theatre. Together these companies founded and operate Progress Lab 1422, a 7,000 sf shared performing arts production facility in the Commercial Drive area. Since opening in 2009, it has become a hub for the Vancouver independent theatre/performance community, and is considered one of the best-equipped production centres in Canada. This innovative space has been celebrated and studied as an exemplary co-location model at conferences across North America.
