The Port of Vancouver and the City of Vancouver have long-standing land use and policy documents to guide the future development of the Central Waterfront Lands. Located within the South Shore of the Burrard Inlet, including the iconic landmark of Canada Place, the Central Waterfront Lands are an active area and critical to the region’s industrial, commercial and transportation infrastructure and as Canada’s gateway to global markets including the Asia-Pacific markets.

CitySpaces was engaged by the Port of Vancouver to undertake a comprehensive review of existing policies related to the Central Waterfront Lands, and identify areas to consider for potential future planning and development of the area. The Central Waterfront Lands policy review included port activities, rail activities, transit and commuter transportation, truck traffic and other goods movement, heliport operations, parking, small marina activities, industrial land use, commercial land use, office land use, potential residential land use, physical form and character, urban design and building massing, public open space and access, environmental sustainability and shoreline, safety and security, and noise.

The Central Waterfront Lands policy review document will serve as a reference guide for the Port of Vancouver in future planning processes.
