Langley Child Care Action Plans

In 2019, CitySpaces Consulting was engaged by the Township of Langley and the City of Langley to complete Child Care Action Plans. The first phase of the project was undertaken in partnership with the City and Township and focused on engagement with parents/guardians, community stakeholders, and child care providers. In total, 1,314 people were engaged through 18 activities related to the child care action plans. For Phase Two, separate child care action plans were created for Langley City and the Township of Langley.

CitySpaces completed best practices research which informed the development of a unique methodology used to determine space creation targets – for children aged 5 and under, the target coverage rate is 70 spaces per 100 children, and for children aged 6 to 12, the target is 55 spaces per 100 children. For both child care action plans, these targets will require collaboration and partnerships with the Province and local stakeholders to support the creation of additional child care spaces. These child care action plans represent the first strategic child care action plans in both Langley City and the Township and provide a roadmap to support space creation, address related challenges, and harness emerging opportunities, in collaboration with community partners.
